"Modern Banjo Ideas And Techniques With Jake Schepps" is intended for those who want to add a more broad-based approach to their playing. Although what he teaches is not that advanced technically, Schepps take the viewer through some worthwhile music theory which might be of some help if you feel that your playing has gotten stale or if you're looking for more open-ended ways to approach the instrument rather than just learning licks. Topics include scales, position playing, using the bar position to work on chord scales, playing 6ths, playing with a metronome, transcribing solos, uncommon keys, and more. Schepps does more explaining than Nickerson, but he has a nice, relaxed, informed teaching style and well worth the price of the DVD ... recommended.
